Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to be an Executive Director of a nonprofit organization to apply? Participants are leaders of an organization. This can mean you are either THE head of the organization, or hold a strategic leadership position in a large organization. The reason for this is that each cohort is designed to be a peer group of leaders who are grappling with similar challenges. We ask that you contact us directly and we can talk to you about your circumstance and need.
  2. Does it matter what size my organization is? No. We actually like it when there are different sizes of organizations represented as the challenges faced by cohort members are often shared regardless of size.
  3. Why would I attend if I have been an ED for many years? We are all being called on to do more with less in these economic times. The internal and external pressures are strong; facing them with calm, resilience and consistent action is harder than ever. The successful skills you used to move your organization to its current level will not be the same skills required to meet these new challenges. TLS provides the focused time and confidential space to deepen your capacity to lead.
  4. How does The Leadership Sanctuary differ from other leadership programs? A majority of leadership programs focus on theory and/or approach. TLS is focused on leadership action under pressure while addressing balance and focus. In small groups of peers, leaders join together over the course of a year under the guidance of certified facilitators. In the program participants learn rigorous practices that prepare them to have more choice when dealing with daily demands, share case studies and create a valued community of trust. The results are leaders who act consistently on their values to fulfill their mission.
  5.  Is the discussion in each cohort session confidential? Yes. One of the ground rules is that what goes on during the cohort session is held in confidence within the group. This value is taken seriously by the participants because issues discussed are often sensitive and everyone receives great value when sharing at this level.
  6. What are the attendance rules for Cohorts? Attendance is required across the year with only one excused absence. This is a commitment to not just personal growth but to others in the group – this is how trust is built. If you miss more than one session your membership in the group will be cancelled without refund.
