We focus on practice.

The Leadership Sanctuary (TLS) is a refuge for leaders. It is a time and place to step away from the fray and to join with peers in confidence and support. It is an opportunity to reflect on who you are as a leader and what you need to take the action in your position of leadership, regardless of circumstance, to drive desired outcomes. A common response from participants is "Thank you!"

Program Design

Each cohort is made up of 12-14 leaders who meet monthly for a total of 9 months under the guidance of a trained executive coach and facilitator. Each session is three hours long and includes exercises and case studies shared by participants. Individuals meet in pairs between sessions.

The program itself is 40% structured leadership practice and 60% learning from peers. A typical session begins with an opening and check in as well as the introduction of the Learning Module for that session. Modules cover topics such as how we interact with others through speech and body language, the arc of change, making requests and declines, holding others accountable and noticing what "grabs" us in our daily lives. It has been carefully crafted from years of working with leaders and through the evolution of the program. Program Objectives

  • Build your leadership presence and core communication skills in order to manage, influence, and strengthen your organization.
  • Increase your ability to stay focused on vital leadership commitments and realign with these obligations to reduce competing priorities.
  • Expand your strategies for building productive relationships with staff, board, funders, volunteers, and partners.
  • Tackle your real time challenges and gain insights, options, and new perspectives from peers, sessions, and reflection.
  • Deepen your capacity to be effective in the face of difficult, sensitive, and urgent challenges by drawing on more options (specifically self care practices, making choices, setting priorities, and establishing boundaries).
  • Build a community and ongoing network of support that reduces isolation, burnout, and feelings of being discouraged.

Program Benefits

Having a confidential, trusting environment gives leaders a place to "let down" and openly discuss challenges they face on the front lines. Participants become both teacher and student as they learn from one another and grow to rely on this close and valued network of friends and colleagues. The benefits become evident in more resilient leaders, engaged staff and focused organizations.
